Dockside Crane Relocation 1

Associated British Ports South Wales awarded SEWARD WYON the contract for re-locating two 40te Stothert & Pitt Dockside Cranes from Swansea to Newport. The scope of works also included modifying the span to accept the narrower rail gauge at Newport dock.

Using the Liverpool based Mersey Mammoth floating crane, Seward Wyon used in-house Designers, Engineers and Craftsmen to undertake the entire project including the fabrication and fitting of the new beams.
The entire project was completed 7 days ahead of schedule and the cranes are now fully operational at Newport.

Dockside Crane Relocation 2

Relocation of Dockside cranes using Mersey Mammoth Floating Crane. The contract comprised the relocation of 3 Stothert and Pitt crank luffing type dockside cranes. I off 7.5t SWL crane weighing 142t and 2 off 10t SWL cranes weighing 209t each.

Provision of a lifting and relocation study including detailed method statement and risk assessment. .
Design and supply of bolt on lifting attachments.
Design and supply of lifting tackle and spreader beams to accommodate the offset location of the centre of gravity to ensure a level lift.
Supply of the 250 t SWL floating crane on hire from the Mersey Dock and Harbour Board.
Supervision and provision of labour to carry out the relocation operation.
All preparation work to the cranes including bolting on the lifting attachments was carried out prior to the arrival of the floating crane. This ensured the successful relocation of the 3 cranes was carried out during one-day operation. Two similar cranes were also relocated by Seward Wyon at the Newport docks during the same visit of the Mersey Mammoth floating crane.
